Teacher Mini-grants
On Monday, December 1, 2008, the Escondido Education Foundation presented checks totaling over $15,000 to thirty-six teachers in the Escondido Union School District. The winning teachers proposed innovative projects for their elementary or middle school classroom. The volunteer selection committee prioritized educational leadership, enthusiasm for the project, evaluation tools to measure concrete results, and the potential for the project to be replicated.
Since 2005, the Foundation has funded over 170 EUSD teachers totaling over $65,000 in mini-grants. Said Escondido Union School District Superintendent Jennifer Walters, "The Foundation's teacher mini-grant process allocates money to teachers for those 'if only...' opportunities to hit the home run in the teaching/learning ballpark." The December 1 ceremony included remarks about the importance of 21st Century education in Escondido by Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler and recent CA State Teacher of the Year Alex Kajitani, known as the “Rappin’ Mathematician.”
